Audiologist Builds Sound Connection with Patients, Parents

Dr. Adam J. Woods, dean of the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (BBS) at The University of Texas at Dallas, visited the Texas Capitol for a discussion on a proposed $3 billion state fund for dementia research in Texas.
New Legislation Could Transform Texas Into a Hub for Dementia Innovation
“Our BBS scientists touch every aspect of dementia, from studies with cutting-edge technology to directly intervene or provide early detection of dementia to supporting our clinicians focused on preventive care,” said Dr. Adam Woods.

Dr. Gagan Wig and two members of his neuroimaging lab were named among five winners of a competition that seeks to advance solutions for accurate, innovative and representative early prediction of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

Six BBS students in the doctor of audiology program traveled to Southeast Mexico during spring break to provide free audiological services to hundreds of children and adults.

Pain Scientist Earns Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship
In her doctoral research, Juliet Mwirigi BS’18, PhD’23 focused on investigating how pain is generated in human dorsal root ganglia sensory neurons located along the spinal cord and how chronic pain may be better treated.

Speech-Language Pathologist Lands Top-10 Spot in Best Jobs Ranking
“You could work with infants who have swallowing disorder, or with adults who are struggling to communicate after a stroke. A day in the life for each speech pathologist is so different, which is what makes the field so exciting,” said Hannah Pourchot Neale MS’13 PhD’18.
