Dear members of the faculty, emeritus faculty and staff in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences,
I’m writing to share news that Dr. James Jerger passed away on July 24, 2024. Jim, with his wife, Dr. Susan Jerger, served on the UT Dallas faculty from 1997 to 2014. As Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence in BBS, he worked at the Callier Center with the communication sciences and disorders program and with the program in applied cognition and neuroscience. He was the founder of the American Academy of Audiology, serving as the academy’s first president and as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology from 1989 to 2011. In addition, he served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research from 1963 to 1970. His research focused on auditory processing disorders in children and seniors, and he wrote or co-wrote more than 310 publications in audiology.
We extend our condolences to Susan and all who knew and loved Jim. Those who wish to recognize his legacy and memory are asked to donate to the University’s Jerger Research Fellowship in Audiology or to any cause that is important to you.
Please see the laudatory message from the American Academy of Audiology.
Sincerely,
Margaret
